What You Need to Know About Adopting a Family
-
What does it mean to adopt a family? If you choose to adopt a family you are given an anonymous wish list. Each list comes with children's clothes sizes and a few gift ideas. Our goal for each child is:
-
At least one outfit (pants and shirt)
-
Shoes, if possible
-
At least one gift, or "wish" item, from their list
-
For the parents, sometimes they ask for household items
-
Also, include grocery, Target or Walmart gift cards for them to buy food for the holidays.
-
-
How much can I expect to spend? A donor can purchase as little or as much as they would like, but we guesstimate you will spend around $100 per child. For the parents' household requests and gift cards, that would be another $75-$100 combined.
-
How large are the families? We have families as small as a single child up to many children. If you think you would like to adopt a family please let us know the number of children you would like in your family and any ideas of ages and gender.
-
How many families does Adopt a Family serve every year? Adopt a Family has been helping the neediest of PUSD families for over 2 decades. In 2019, over 500 families were served. With Covid, we fear the Adopt a Family program will see an increase in need and a decrease in donors. We hope we can count on you to help!
-
Is it possible for my book club/office/neighborhood to adopt one or more families? Absolutely! We see this all the time. It's a great way to share the holiday spirit of giving with others and build community. Just let us know what you can do, and we'll connect you with a family (or families) that will fit your needs.

What's the deadline for the gifts? We will be collecting items December 7th - 11th.
